THERE is still time to get creative with a camera and enter a newly launched competition to help promote Poole Youth Carnival.

Young snappers are being encouraged to get out and about on the waterside open space at Baiter and show off their photo skills.

The competition is being backed by the Daily Echo, and the winners will have their prize prints published in the paper.

The recreation park is playing a big role in the first youth carnival on Sunday May 17, hosting the fair and fun events.

And the aim of the “Snaps from the Baiter” competition is to show it in all its glory and moods.

“We want lots of entries to judge so get out there and get snapping,” said Steward Mckell, Baiter co-ordinator for the carnival.

There are two age ranges, under 12s and 12 to 18-year-olds and the winners will have pride of place in an open-top car in the carnival parade as well as receiving a free family pass (max four) for the funfair including ice-cream, candyfloss and a free hotdog/burger.

“It can be of the Baiter, on the Baiter or from the Baiter,” said Stewart. There is a skatepark and the park is a popular spot for kiting and cycling and has its own outdoor gym.

There is all manner of wildlife visiting the park, boats, sunsets, sunrises and a whole variety of activities.

Views across the harbour to Brownsea Island and Purbeck should provide plenty of inspiration to young photographers.

And the classes will be judged by well-known amateur photographer Robin Boultwood, whose own photo accompanies this piece.

As well as winners pictures appearing in an edition of the Daily Echo, all photos entered will be included in a gallery on the Echo’s website.

To enter submit a hard copy only to Mr S. Mckell, 1 Foxgloves Close, Hamworthy, Poole BH15 4FH by Sunday May 3. On the back of the photo write your name, age, address and telephone number and the title of your composition.

Winners will be notified by May 10 and no photographs can be returned.
