THE Daily Echo is backing an exciting competition for young snappers to show off their skills and help promote Poole Youth Carnival.

Waterfront recreation park Baiter at Poole will host the fair and fun events, to run alongside the first youth carnival which will wind its way through the old town on Sunday May 17.

This has been chosen by organisers as the subject of the competition, “Snaps from the Baiter”, and the aim is to show it in all its glory and moods.

“It can be of the Baiter, on the Baiter or from the Baiter,” said Stewart Mckell, Baiter co-ordinator for the carnival.

“There is lots of wildlife, lots of boats, sunset, sunrise and activities,” said Stewart. The park has a skate park and is a popular spot for kiting and cycling and it boasts an outdoor gym.

There are views across Poole Harbour to Brownsea Island and to Purbeck, giving plenty of inspiration for young snappers.

“We want to encourage as many people as possible to participate,” said Stewart. “We aim to encourage young photographers and promote the fact that the carnival is happening.”

The two classes will be judged by well-known amateur photographer Robin Boultwood, whose own photos accompany this piece.

Under 12s and 12 to 18-year-olds will be competing for the honours and winners will receive a free family pass (max four) for the carnival funfair including ice-cream, candyfloss and a free hotdog/burger.

The two winners will also have pride of place in an open topped car in the carnival parade, their photos will appear in an edition of the Daily Echo and all photos entered will be exhibited in a gallery on the Echo’s website.

To enter submit a hard copy only to Mr S. Mckell, 1 Foxgloves Close, Hamworthy, Poole BH15 4FH by Sunday May 3. On the back of the photo write your name, age, address and telephone number and the title of your composition.

Winners will be notified by May 10 and no photographs can be returned.
