A SECTION of the A35 was closed this morning due to ice.

Police said that rain at around 7am fell onto frozen surfaces, causing black ice.

The Met Office issued an urgent weather warning at 8am specifically for Dorset.

The Dorset Way, between Upton and the Bakers Arms, was closed both ways after a number of cars - around 10 - skidded off the road.

At around 10.30am the road was reopened.

The road was closed while the vehicles were recovered and the ice melted.

No serious injuries have been reported, police say.

There were also reports of problems further west, between the Bakers Arms and Morden Park Corner.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service was called at 8.57am to the A35 at Slepe after one vehicle crashed.

Crews from Poole and Wareham attended and assisted the ambulance service in removal of one casualty through the rear of vehicle on a spine board.

The casualty was transported to hospital as a precautionary measure.

The weather warning says: "Showers this morning are falling onto frozen surfaces. The public should be aware of the risk of icy roads and pavements.

"Temperatures are very variable across the area, though with pockets of frost persisting where showers come in off the channel, there is the risk of locally icy stretches."
