A CAR was left teetering on the edge of the lake at Poole Park following a collision yesterday afternoon.

The call was made to Dorset Police at 12.38pm to a report of a two-car collision, involving a grey VW Polo and a black Ford Focus, close to the Seven’s Boat Shed restaurant in the park, based in the centre of the town.

Scores of onlookers watched as the Ford Focus, which was not visibly damaged, was winched back from the edge of the lake by a recovery HGV vehicle by around 2.10pm. A woman was then seen getting into the driver’s seat and was able to drive the car away from the scene of the incident.

Les Richardson, 71, retired from Poole, said: “I turned up just after it had happened. The car was heading just over the side of the lake and then the police arrived and the recovery vehicle drove into place to pull it back onto the tarmac.

“I have never seen this happen here before but I saw a car at the Sandbanks Ferry that had gone into the water a few years ago.”

Earlier this year, police attended an incident involving a blue Peugeot 206 which rolled into the boating lake after a reported handbrake failure.

During the incident in April, some heavy machinery was needed to raise the vehicle back to dry land.
