TESCO’S Branksome filling station is back in business this morning after being closed for nearly two months due to suspected contaminated fuel.

The pumps opened to motorists at 6am and staff said it is business as usual at the Poole Road site.

The forecourt was boarded up several weeks ago after scores of motorists broke down after filling up with diesel. Pumps were ripped out and heavy machinery brought in to dig down to fuel containers below the ground.

Compensation has been paid to many affected motorists but Tesco have remained tight-lipped about the cause of the contamination. Further claims are still being processed.

A spokesman for the company said “complex testing” is still going on.

Trading standards officers have been on site during the works to ensure that legislation is being complied with.

The petrol station is known to be one of the cheapest in the area and is today selling petrol for 120.9p and diesel for 124.9p.

Motorists said they were pleased to be using the petrol station again.

Helen Roberts said: “I am glad it is open again because it the cheapest” and another driver, who did not want to be named, said: “I pass this station on my way to work so it is handy for me. It doesn’t seem quite as busy as usual.”
