A BABY born in Poole who was destined to bear the name Dylan Thomas arrived on the same day as the famous poet’s ‘100th birthday’.

Dylan Thomas Brind was born on Monday on what would have been the Welsh poet’s centenary birthday to parents, Sean and Candyce, both 33, and as a sibling to their daughters, Lacey, five, and Tayla, two.

Sean said the family travelled to Rockley Park in Hamworthy from their home in West Sussex for a holiday ahead of the baby’s due date on November 8.

He added that it was by pure coincidence that the names and birthdays match up, as both of their older children arrived later than expected.

“Five or six years ago, we had both decided that Dylan would be a nice name if we had a little boy and Thomas Richards is my grandfather’s name, so he was always going to be Dylan Thomas Brind.

“It just so happened that he was born on the same day that the poet, Dylan Thomas, would have celebrated his 100th birthday. We know of him and respect his work, but it’s just a coincidence that they share the same birthday.”

Sean said that Candyce’s mum, Carolyn, and her sister-in-law, Sarah Bird, a midwife at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, were on-hand to ensure baby Dylan arrived safely into the world at 8.14am.

Sean said that mother and baby were checked over at Poole Hospital and ‘are both doing very well’.
