AN UNDERCOVER police officer took to the saddle in North Dorset to educate drivers about how to safely overtake cyclists.
The operation involved a plain clothed officer who cycled along the road to see if motorists were leaving enough space as they overtook them.
Drivers who didn’t leave enough space were pulled over at a checkpoint.
They were then given roadside education as an alternative to the £100 fine and three penalty points. ?
Officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse team stopped a total of 10 drivers within a 90-minute period who were each given roadside education.
During the operation, a number of other offences including using a mobile phone at the wheel, speeding and not having valid insurance.
