MOTORISTS travelling on the A31 have faced delays of more than 40 minutes following an earlier crash.

Highways England said one lane is closed eastbound between Ringwood and the M27 because of emergency barrier repairs.

They initially expected the work to be completed by midday but have now said it will continue until at least some time this evening as engineers work to make the road safe for motorists.

A spokesperson said: "About 120m of barrier was damaged which is a lengthy piece of barrier.

"They had to wait to start the work because there was fog this morning. The work was started around 11am.

"They expect the work to carry on until at least this evening."

While Highways warned drivers to expect delays of around 40 minutes, some motorists said traffic had been barely moving at times.

The crash happened on the A31 eastbound between Shobley and Mogshade Hill at 4.30am.

It involved a single vehicle. Only minor injuries were reported and no one was taken to hospital.
