RINGWOOD'S first-ever bus service provided by Yellow Buses in the company's 114-year history has been unveiled.

The new Bourne Line route B4 service goes from Bournemouth to Ringwood via Ferndown, West Moors and Verwood.

Yellow Buses managing director Andrew Smith, said: “We have spent a long time speaking with passengers and analysing data in order to make the changes work for everyone.

“It’s a network designed for the needs of our customers in 2017 and we believe it will prove very popular.”

Yellow Buses operates a fleet of 131 buses and 18 coaches with a staff of 414.

It is part of RATP Group, the world’s fifth largest public transport provider.

Between Mondays and Fridays the bus sets off from Bournemouth Square at 9.32am then every hour thereafter until 1.32pm. Another bus then leaves at 5.32pm. An earlier bus can be caught from Parley Cross at 9.03am.

In the other direction a bus leaves Ringwood at 9.18am and then every hour until 2.18pm and the last bus runs at 4.18pm. A bus runs from Ferndown at 9.12am.

On Saturdays a bus runs every hour with the first leaving Westover Retail Park at 7.55am, and 8.32am from Bournemouth.

The first Saturday bus leaves Ringwood at 7.18am and runs every hour until 6.18pm.

Cllr Michael Thierry, the former Mayor of Ringwood, said it would bring a much needed boost to businesses in the town in a speech made prior to his resignation from the role of first citizen.

“It brings me great joy and happiness to welcome Yellow Buses to Ringwood," he said. "I’m delighted that Yellow Buses will be providing a service around Ringwood, bringing in people from areas that previously weren’t served.

“It gives people the opportunity to visit Ringwood and see what the town has to offer.”

At last week's full town council meeting, (JAN 25) councillor Thierry said the operator is open to discuss services provided with the town council at a later stage.

Councillor Angela Wiseman asked if a suggestion could be made for a service to operate to and from Ringwood and Christchurch "without going around the whole Forest".
