RUNNERS have been given details of the routes for this year's New Forest Marathon.

New routes have been organised for the event on Sunday September 11, with distances including a 5k, 10k, half marathon and full marathon as well as junior races.

Organiser Chris Farr from ORA Events said: “It’s been important for us to discuss the routes with all local parties including both Brockenhurst and Sway Parish Councils, business associations, Forestry Commission, Verderers, Commoners Defence Association, NFDC, National Park Authority, residents and a focus group of runners to ensure that the best possible routes could be taken for all concerned.

"We are very proud of what’s been achieved and would like to thank everyone for their time and support throughout this process.

"We look forward to delivering not only a fantastic running experience but routes that embrace the considerations of the local community."

The routes for the 5k and 10k remain the same but changes have been made to the half and full distances.

Full marathon runners will run down North Weirs crossing Burley Road onto the woodland path and exiting onto Sway Road next to Brockenhurst Primary School.

As part of the improvements, residents will be given a leaflet with details about the day.

Organisers are also working with both Sway and Brockenhurst Parish Councils on flagship projects to create a legacy in the forest.

Andy Daish, from ORA Events said: “With the full support of the community it’s enabled us to shape the routes to suit everyone and is amazing to be able to give support back.

"With ABP backing the New Forest Marathon Community Fund it will make a huge difference so urge anyone wishing to make a contribution to the fund to do so knowing it will be doubled.”
