AN investigation has been launched into the death of a pensioner who died following a blaze at his home in New Milton.
Firefighters were called to a property in Otters Walk just before 10.30am on Sunday, June 5.
An 89-year-old man was found within the address but sadly efforts to save him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 11am.
The man's next of kin and the coroner have been informed.
An 85-year-old woman at the address managed to get out of the house safely and without injury.
According to a spokesman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue the fire was located in the first-floor bedroom of the property.
Five fire crews attended the incident and remained on scene tackling the blaze for around an hour.
A Hampshire Constabulary spokesman confirmed that an investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.
