THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of Lymington as the re-launched carnival got under way at the weekend.
The Lymington and Pennington Carnival was taking place for the second time since it was re-launched last year, with residents turning out in droves to watch the floats pass.
Older residents recalled the Second World War as they viewed a group of vehicles entered by the All Saints Luncheon Club.
Members marked the 70th anniversary of VE Day as well as saluting the role played by the Women’s Land Army, which helped keep Britain fed during the war by taking the place of farm labourers called up for military service.
Other entrants included a Herbie-style car based on the star of the 1968 Walt Disney film The Love Bug.
This year’s carnival queen was 11-year-old Mia Drew, who rode through the town in a luxury speedboat mounted on a trailer towed by BHG Marine.
