The body of a woman found in the Solent on Monday has been formally identified as Rebecca Allan. Police are appealing for witnesses but say her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Detectives want to hear from anyone who saw Rebecca on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

Rebecca, aged 40, from Lymington, went missing at approximately 12.10am on the morning of Sunday, while she was visiting the Old Gaffers sailing festival at Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight.

Police were alerted to a report of a body in the Solent on Monday, and the dead woman was formally identified by family members yesterday.

A spokesman for the police force said: “Officers would like to thank family, friends, members of the public and partner agencies for their assistance.

“Detectives are investigating the circumstances leading up to Rebecca's disappearance. Her death is not being treated as suspicious.

“HM Coroner has been informed, and a post-mortem examination to help establish the cause of death is due to take place.

“Enquiries so far have established that Rebecca Allan was last seen close to the jetty near Yarmouth Sailing Club, walking across the green towards the beer tent.”

Rebecca was described as white, of medium build, 5ft 9ins tall, with shoulder-length light brown hair and a distinctive tiger tattoo on her stomach.

When she disappeared, Rebecca was wearing brown boots, navy blue jeans, a grey shirt and a navy blue Henri Lloyd sailing jacket.

She was carrying a small red zip-up faux-leather purse and was wearing a silver twist bangle on her right wrist.
