THE Ringwood Adult Learning and Skills Centre at Brockenhurst College has handed over cash to the teenage cancer ward at Poole Hospital.

The £200 donation was a result of the sale of refreshments during the centre’s coffee breaks.

Over the past few years, cash has been given to a host of good causes and this year the Teenage and Young Adult Centre at Poole Hospital has benefited.

Louise Watkinson, a staff nurse of Durlston Ward, visited the centre to collect the donation and speak about her fundraising.

She informed those at the centre that, while Poole is a district hospital providing intensive treatment for a large percentage of the population of Dorset, it is also the Teenage and Young Adult (TYA) centre.

Louise said: “Sadly the TYA service at Poole had been somewhat neglected over recent }years due to financial budget restrictions.

“Over the last three months we have been fundraising with activities over the coming months to help raise funds towards the very costly building of a specialist TYA room for the ward.

“Such a room requires an air filter system to help protect patients with suppressed immunities and facilities to help keep these isolated patients busy during the duration of their stay.

“The room will also be a social point for people to visit and hang out as patients can be in isolation for anything up to six weeks in a room.”
