THE funeral of an ambulance driver killed in a crash is due to take place today.

Gill Randall was taking an elderly patient to Southampton General Hospital when the ambulance left the road and smashed into a tree.

The accident happened on the A337 between Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst on April 26.

Gill, 42, of Newlands Copse, Blackfield, and her patient, retired Army officer Jim Ironside, 88, of Harts Way, Everton, near Lymington, both died in the crash.

Mr Ironside’s son David, chairman of Hordle Parish Council, and paramedic Richard Riley suffered serious injuries.

A large number of Gill’s colleagues are expected to attend her funeral at All Saints Church, Fawley.

A 25-year-old Brockenhurst man driving a Seat Alhambra was arrested on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and was bailed until July 29.
