SPORTSMAN and TV presenter Bob Wilson OBE will be the guest of honour at a gala charity night in March.

Mr Wilson will speak at a dinner hosted by members of Wimborne Rotary on Friday, March 24.

The former footballer made more than 300 appearances for Arsenal between 1964 and 1974, as well as two appearances for Scotland.

After retiring as a player, he turned to coaching and broadcasting, presenting football programmes on television for 28 years.

In August 1999 he and wife Megs launched the Willow Foundation, a charity founded in memory of their daughter Anna, who died in December 1998.

The foundation provides special days for seriously ill people between the ages of 16 and 40.

Mr Wilson will speak to raise funds for three charities - the Willow Foundation, the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation and the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation.

Sue Young, president of Wimborne Rotary, said: “We are fortunate indeed to have Bob Wilson as a speaker at this gala charity night.

"Our guests on the night will hear a unique insight into the world of football and sport more generally."

The event will take place at the Marriott Highcliffe Hotel in Bournemouth.

Tickets are priced at £500 for a table of ten or £100 a couple. For more information, email Derek Radley at galanight@wimbornerotary.org
