VANDALS have damaged an artwork put in place last year to welcome visitors to Wimborne.

The wall-wrap, which features images of the town centre, was put in place in an underpass running from the car park in Allenview Road towards Crown Mead.

However, in late November, the work was torn by vandals.

It is expected that repairs will cost around £1,000.

A spokesperson from the Wimborne Business Improvement District (BID) team said: "The underpass wrap, which was lovingly created by local artists and paid for by the local business community, has been vandalised."

The representative said police are investigating.

"We think we have a lead on the culprits," the spokesperson said.

"Repairs on the wrap will be done on December 20 or 21 and will cost the business community of Wimborne around £1,000."

The wall-wrap was commissioned by the BID in 2014.

As well as images of the town, taken by photographer Darren Lovell, the wrap signposted areas of interest.
