A CONSULTATION on implementing a £95,000 cap on public sector exit payments is set for the next “few months”.

This comes a Dorset MP looks to ensure officers do not receive large payouts during the county’s council mergers.

Christchurch MP Sir Christopher Chope is calling for the cap to be in place to prevent large pay-out, while he continues to contest the approved plans to form two unitary authorities in Dorset.

Sir Christopher is pushing the Government to impose the £95k cap, with a large number of redundancies expected when the two new unitary authorities are formed next year.

He asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer last week when he plans to launch the consultation on setting the maximum limit at £95k.

In response, Elizabeth Truss MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said: “We are committed to ending six figure exit payments for public sector workers.”
