A MAN has died following a crash between a car and a cyclist in Christchurch.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision involving a car and a cyclist in Barrack Road just after 7pm on Thursday night.

The collision took place on the road near the Premier Inn and Bailey Bridge restaurant.

The cyclist, a local man in his twenties, was taken to Royal Bournemouth Hospital with very serious injuries. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

His family is being supported by specially trained officers.

The driver of the Volkswagen Polo car, a 53-year-old Christchurch woman, was uninjured.

Barrack Road was closed between Bailey Roundabout and Stour Road while emergency services dealt with the incident and collision investigators inspected the scene.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Police Constable Julie Loveless, of Dorset Police’s Road Policing Team, said: “Our thoughts are with the young man’s family at this difficult time.

“We would like to thank motorists for their patience during the road closure.”
