PLANS to build a modern block of flats on the site of a closed nursing home have been withdrawn.

The proposal to build 10 apartments on the site of the Pinebeach care home on Southcliffe Road in Friars Cliff, Christchurch was withdrawn by the applicant.

The agent, Lifecaring Holdings Ltd, said they had been unable to secure officer support for the scheme.

But revised plans are being drawn up and are likely to be submitted this week.

Agent Chris Shipperley, from Anders Roberts and Associates, said the new plans were in accordance with the case officers' requests.

They will have a smaller footprint, a pitched roof rather than a flat roof and the 10 apartments will be smaller than before.

The home closed last year amid speculation the site was set to be sold for development.

At the time, the registered owner of the home, Mark Gould, refused to comment, except to confirm the home would close.

Mr Gould is a joint director of Lifecaring Holdings Ltd, the applicant.

The scheme included underground parking as well as cycle and bin storage.

Of the 10 flats, three of them were set to be three-bedroom properties, with seven two-bedroom apartments over three floors.

There were two objections to the scheme, one of which raised concerns about overdevelopment, due to the size of the building.

The letter from the resident said: "The actual design is very much a subjective matter and although it is rather one might call "Sandbanks" style, it would be difficult to refuse on architectural grounds.

"My greatest concern is that the provision of car parking at basement level for the 10 apartments is firstly insufficient, and secondly in practice by the nature of tandem car parking spaces, adjacent walling and tight manoeuvring areas, it will just not work."

Concerns about a lack of visitor parking were also raised.
