THE proud mum of a little girl killed in a tragic accident in Christchurch is thrilled a road has been named in her memory.

Little Jade Stoner was just seven-years-old when her life was cut tragically short in a collision with a car outside her Somerford home.

Now a sign has been erected at the new Jade Close and mum, Debbie, joined friends at the site to celebrate.

She told the Daily Echo: “I really can’t quite believe it and I don’t think the enormity of this has sunk in yet.

“This is going to be here for years and generations are going to see it and hear about Jade.”

It’s nearly nine years since the accident took place outside the then family home in Edward Road as Jade played on her bike.

Since then local people have supported Debbie and her campaign for a permanent memorial to Jade.

Debbie added: “This has happened because of the good people in this community. They are kind, down-to-earth people and they still remember Jade – it amazes me.

“I still talk to many of her friends – it’s hard to believe they are 16 now.”

Jade Close is one of two roads on the new Sovereign Housing Association development at Scott’s Green.

A year ago Sovereign told Debbie that names had already been decided but it was changed after hundreds of people joined a Facebook group supporting the idea of naming the road after Jade.
