THE RSPCA is appealing for information after two guinea pigs were found abandoned in woods at Hurn on Tuesday.

The two small animals were found in the woods off Matchams Lane in the morning.

The kind member of the public who found them stayed with them until RSPCA animal collection officer Sue Brooks was able to collect them.

Both guinea pigs are male - one is ginger and black and the other is grey and white with long hair.

They were found cold and wet and the grey and white guinea pig had badly matted hair on his rear end.

The two guinea pigs are now being cared for and are recovering from their ordeal.

ACO Brooks said: “I can't thank the person who found these guinea pigs enough - I was helping another animal in need and wasn't able to get there straight away, but he stayed with them as he didn't want them to come to any harm.

“It is a shame that their owner didn't have the same conscience.

“We don't think the guinea pigs were in the area for very long as they would have suffered more from the cold otherwise, so we desperately need anyone who may have seen something suspicious - or even who knows someone who had guinea pigs up until Tuesday - to get in touch.

“People need to realise that it is just not acceptable to dump their pets when they no longer want them.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact the RSPCA inspector information line on 0300 123 8018. Calls are treated in confidence.
