SEARCH and rescue teams were launched last night after a person was seen going into the water but reportedly failed to return to shore.
Lifeboats, tasked by the Solent Coastguard, were joined by the Poole Lifeboat Station, police and the Coastguard's helicopter crew to carry out the search at Bournemouth Pier at 7.40pm.
A person had been seen getting into the water 200m east of the pier but was not seen coming back out.
Emergency services searched the water between Bournemouth and Boscombe piers, and up to a mile out to sea, but nothing was found.
Eventually the lifeboats were stood down by the Solent Coastguard, and the volunteers returned back to their stations by 9.45pm.
