Police closed Holdenhurst Road yesterday night after a car hit a lamppost.
Officers were contacted just before 9.50pm with reports of the single vehicle crash outside the Lion's Head pub and Sound Circus involving a white Audi A3, registered to a man from Bournemouth.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said: "The road was closed because the road surface was slippery. Sand was placed on the road and the local authorities and the fire service were also called to help make the road safe."
Nobody is thought to have been injured as a result of the crash.
