THE owner of one of Bournemouth’s major nightclubs is to invest £250,000 in refurbishing the premises after announcing a fourth consecutive year of growth.

The Deltic Group, which runs Cameo and Myu in Fir Vale Road, saw profit before tax rise from £3.7million to £4.3m in the year ended February 27.

Deltic, previously called the Luminar Group, clawed its way back to profit after going into administration in October 2011, when it breached its banking covenants. It was bought for £45m by a trio of leisure specialists.

It saw EBITBA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) rise 16.8 per cent to £13.4m, on turnover up eight per cent to £101m.

Deltic Group’s chief executive, Peter Marks, said: “It is very heartening to report these excellent results which reflect the hard work, capital investment and imagination of everyone at Deltic.

‘‘We now have the ideal platform to be the dominant late night player in each of our 58 locations.

"Our ability to respond to customer trends, backed by our financial firepower, gives me confidence in Deltic Group making further progress over the coming year.’’

Deltic has focused on premium drinks, private booths, party packages and an “entertainment-led offering”. It attracted 6.9m visits a year to its clubs and saw pre-booked sales rise by 175 per cent.

Its strategy has spent £9m on refurbishing its sites, recruited sales teams in key venues, diversified further into the bar market and made acquisitions.

The group has investmened more in entertainment, delivering popular acts for student nights and weekends. Venues have hosted celebrity DJs, monthly events, comedy nights and the Smirnoff-sponsored Big Night Out.

It supports local communities through its partnership with the Echo Trust, which has raised more than £2.5m since it was established in 2002.

Regional operations director Ged Gorry said: “Cameo & Myu has played its part in the group’s strong trading performance. We are all about delivering memorable experiences and great nights out.

“The success of our Bournemouth club and bar shows we understand what our customers want and we will continue to build on its attraction as a vibrant and exciting late night venue.”
