Rail passengers using car parks today may be charged full prices because the machines don't recognise the bank holiday.

Due to to the way the machines work, South West Trains said they would be unable to correct this before the end of Monday.

A spokesperson said: "If you're affected by this, we will be able to refund the difference between the price charged, and the bank holiday price.

"To apply for a refund, please keep hold of your car park ticket and ask at the station ticket office where your car is parked. If this is not possible, please contact our Customer Relations team for assistance.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused."
