MOTORISTS sat through lengthy rush-hour delays on the Wessex Way on Friday morning after a car collided with a motorbike near County Gates.

Dorset Police initially closed the A338 in both directions following the accident, that happened around 8.30am between Country Gates and the Bournemouth West junction.

The Wessex Way was quickly reopened in the westbound direction, but drivers travelling eastbound had to divert through Westborne.

Police kept the eastbound Wessex Way closure in place for more than an hour.

Paramedics attended the scene after a white Vauxhall Astra, registered to a Bournemouth woman, and a black and grey Suzuki motorbike, registered to a Christchurch man, collided. No serious injures were sustained.

Queues built up in the immediate area, with traffic stretching back from the Bournemouth West junction to Richmond Hill.
