AN exhibition inspired by the culture of Nepal takes place in Bournemouth this weekend in aid of the earthquake appeal.

The event, originally organised to celebrate the bicentenary of UK-Nepalese relations, will feature artworks inspired by the landlocked Himalayan country - created by Bournemouth and Poole College students.

There will also be Nepali Food produced by the town’s first Nepalese restaurateur, Anil Lamgade, and Nepalese traditional music.

Harry Seccombe, from Boscombe Arts, said: "It's great to see organisations of this calibre coming together for such an important cause, and this is also a fantastic opportunity for Boscombe residents to find out what Meyrick Hall has to offer them, and to find out more about Nepalese culture."

The event, held at Meyrick Hall in Christchurch Road on Saturday (MAY 23), has been organised by the UK Nepal Friendship Society, It’s All About Culture, Boscombe Arts, Meyrick Hall and Bournemouth and Poole College.

From 10am to 5pm visitors will be able to view the artworks and sample Nepalese cuisine, and there will be a 'Taste of Nepal' dinner at 6.30pm.

Later in the evening, from 7.30pm, there will be a host of entertainment including traditional Nepali dance from Rina Adhikari, Thai songs from local musician Yui Kharlberg and further music from British folk duo Kaia Viera and Tim Crook.

In association with AFC Bournemouth, there will be an auction of artwork by internationally renowned artists Govinda Sah, Subash Thebe and Alan Mercel-Sanca, and also a Cherries shirt signed by winger Matt Richie.

There will also be a solo performance from Andy Bennett of Ocean Colour Scene, and a presentation about the UKNFS art programme and the earthquake crisis.

The event represents another opportunity to see the students' artworks, including painting, tapestry, collage and photography, which were originally displayed in Poole High Street.

All money raised will go to help with the Nepal Disaster Fund.

Tickets can be booked through Alan Mercel-Sanca on 07811269454 or by email at alanms.888@gmail.com.
