BOURNEMOUTH and the New Forest are set for a tourism boost this year according to a study.

More than eight out of ten Brits will opt for a "staycation" this summer with both areas featuring in the top 10 British holiday destinations.

A survey, carried out by VoucherCodes.co.uk, revealed Bournemouth is number five and the New Forest number 10.

It also estimates that "staycationers" will spend an average £1,352 each on accommodation, travel, visiting attractions, food and holiday luxuries.

Brits will be parting with an average of £250 on food and drink, £206 on accommodation, and £101 on visiting attractions. Despite avoiding the tropics, Brits won’t be scrimping on their holiday style, parting with an average of £181.61 on clothes and accessories, a further £97.04 on health and beauty treats, and £110 on spa treatments.

The study shows that 83 per cent will opt for a holiday at home, a rise of 17 per cent on 2014.

Perennial favourite Cornwall is cream of the crop for UK getaways for the fifth year running, with one in five Brits opting for cream teas, surfing and rolling Cornish countryside as their getaway of choice in 2015.

Those surveyed also showed their love of a city break, with the South West hotspot closely followed by London, the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales.

Nearly said they decided not to go abroad because they wanted to see more of the UK with a quarter citing budget restrictions as the reason. More than a fifth said they aim to make the most of Bank Holiday weekends and to visit family members.
