Firefighters were called to a waste bin fire at flats in Springbourne early this morning.
Crews from Springbourne and Redhill were called to reports of fire alarms going off just before 2am.
They arrived to find there had been a fire in a waste bin in the 2 storey accommodation in the ground floor involving careless disposal of smoking materials.
A spokesperson for Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: "Luckily the damage was confined to the waste bin and contents.
"The incident could have been much worse. "DFRS would like to take this opportunity to remind you to dispose of your smoking materials safely and in a suitable container and ensure they are fully extinguished."
