WILDLIFE enthusiasts were treated to every aspect of the natural sciences at a museum’s open day.

The Bournemouth Natural Science Society and Museum teamed up with Dorset Wildlife Trust and other local conservation groups to present a wildlife gardening event at the museum.

The open day allowed visitors to explore the BNSS museum collections, which range from botany and geology to Egyptology and archaeology.

There were also craft activities for children, as well as live insect demonstrations and pond dipping.

Katherine West, from BNSS, said: “We have two open days a year, and they are one of our most popular events.

“It’s been really good fun and visitors have been enjoying the collections, as well as the pond dipping because our pond is absolutely full of tadpoles and newts at the moment.”

Experts from the Dorset Wildlife Trust were available in the garden all day to offer wildlife-friendly gardening advice, and there were also hands-on workshops, Q&A session and stalls to inspire people to look after wildlife.

Katherine added: “We were very pleased to be able to show off what a wonderful natural science museum we have, and it’s been great partnering up with Dorset Wildlife Trust and other local organisations today.”
