POLITICIANS hopeful of becoming MP for Bournemouth East at the next general election visited Sunrise of Southbourne last week.

Labour candidate Peter Stokes joined the senior living community on Tuesday, followed by the visit of Liberal Democrat Jon Nicolas on Wednesday, with current MP Tobias Ellwood rounding off the week on Friday.

Each event began with the candidates giving a talk on their careers so far and where their passion for politics comes from, followed by Sunrise’s very own version of Question Time.

Before the political week got underway, Sunrise residents had the opportunity to submit questions to put forward to the candidates.

A selection was then chosen and each politician was asked the same ones when they visited.

Residents who felt the candidates hadn’t answered their questions sufficiently were able to quiz them further over champagne and canapés after the event.

Sam King, general manager at Sunrise of Southbourne said: “The whole week was a great way for our residents to see some of the people they’ll be voting for at the next election.

“They didn’t have an easy time of it either – they were still being questioned when they left.”
