"THREATENING" workmen completed a poor quality job on a Ferndown home before asking for more money than initially quoted, police say.

Officers were called to the property on Tuesday after a couple were cold called by traders.

A price was agreed for some work to their property.

However, when the workmen asked to be paid, the victims disagreed with the final bill.

The workmen argued that they needed more money to finish the job.

PCSO Kate Hann of Dorset Police said the workmen behaved in a "threatening way", demanding more cash for the "fairly poor quality job".

Members of the victim's family then arrived and the workmen left.

PCSO Hann urged residents not to accept cold callers.

She said: "There are dishonest people out and about who will do their very best to part you from your hard-earned cash."
