A DRUG driver has been banned from the roads after testing positive for cocaine use.

Andrew Saunders, 51, of Pilsdon Drive in Poole, pleaded guilty at Poole Magistrates' Court on Tuesday to drug driving.

He was also given a £110 fine and told to pay £30 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The court heard that at around 6.20pm on Wednesday February 1, officers stopped Saunders driving his Honda Civic along Culliford Crescent in Poole.

The officer noticed that Saunders' speech was slow and his pupils were dilated. He was given a roadside drug test that tested positive for cocaine.

He was arrested and taken to Poole police station where a blood test was carried out. It was found to contain 21 microgrammes of cocaine - the legal limit is 10 microgrammes.

Police Constable Dave Cotterill, said: "Driving while under the influence of drugs can have devastating consequences and we are committed to taking drug drivers off our roads.

"Drugs can affect not only the way you behave and react but also your judgement and the way you think.

"If you suspect someone of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, please dial 999 immediately so we can intercept them."
