POLICE are investigating after thieves stole £11,000 worth of brand new bikes from a cycle company in Corfe Castle.

A dozen brand new bikes were stolen from Cyclexperience's storage space and hire centre at Norden Park and Ride.

A member of staff arrived at work this morning, Tuesday, to find the security padlocks cut and the storage container opened.

Thieves stole 12 "Kona" cycles, which were still in their boxes awaiting construction, and destined for the company's shop rather than the hire business.

Approximately 30 yards away on a path leading back to the A351 a few empty boxes were located along with two other bicycles.

Forensic teams have been called to investigate the scene and the empty boxes.

A spokesman from Cyclexperience said the theft had not affected the hire side of the business however the thieves have stolen all of the company's brand new stock for the year.

"This is a huge blow to a small family business such as ours," he added.
