A MAN threatened shop staff with a kitchen knife in an attempted armed robbery in Boscombe.

Dorset Police said a man entered the Premier Boscombe Superstore in Christchurch Road at around 10.40pm on Monday, February 1, brandishing the weapon and demanding cash.

No money was handed over and witnesses reported that the man made off in the direction of Pokesdown Railway Station.

Detectives have released CCTV images of the suspect.

Detective Constable Scott Brimicombe, of Bournemouth CID, said: "I am now able to release CCTV images of the suspect.

"I am aware that the images do not show his face very well, but I would urge anyone who may recognise the man from his stance or clothing to come forward.

"I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen this person in the area before or after the incident or has witnessed anything suspicious at the relevant times."

The suspect has been described as white, approximately 40 years old, of a wide build and about five feet six inches tall. He had a dirty face and a beard and appeared to be under the influence of drink or drugs. He was wearing a green jacket, dark trousers, a black hat and a scarf.

Officers, including armed police, attended the scene and carried out a search of the area, but no arrests were made. No one was injured during the incident.
