A MAN who appeared to be slumped on the ground in pain, turned on the Good Samaritan who tried to help, robbing him of two mobile phones.

Detectives are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after the street robbery in Bournemouth last Thursday.

A 22-year-old local man was walking alone along Walpole Road in the direction of St Clements Road when he saw the man on the ground halfway between the Crescent and Randolph Road. However the man got up, placed his left hand on the victim's shoulder and told him to turn out his pockets.

Believing he would get hurt if he didn't do what he was told, the victim handed two mobile phones to the offender, who walked off in the direction of Walpole Lane. A friend of the victim later recovered the phones but the suspect escaped down Walpole Lane.

He is described as white, between 28 and 38 years old, around five feet seven inches tall, of medium build and wearing a blue and brown body warmer.

DC Lynda Soutine, of Bournemouth CID, said: “I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any more information to come forward.

“I believe there may have been a number of possible witnesses in the area at the time and am keen to speak to these people, in confidence, as they may be able to assist with my investigation.”

Witnesses and anyone with information can call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting crime number 55150091480, or call free and anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
