Welcome to Weymouth Wetlands, an RSPB wildlife reserve and a peaceful oasis at the heart of a busy seaside town, just five minutes walk from the beaches.
It consists of two family-friendly sites – Radipole Lake at the Swannery car park near the Esplanade and Lodmoor on the Preston Beach Road.
Together they play host to more than 1,000 species of birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles, fish, butterflies, moths and wild flowers – and that’s not even counting the insects.
A haven for wildlife, Weymouth Wetlands has also been described as a ‘paradise for people on the edge of town’ by TV presenter and naturalist Chris Packham – “a great asset to Weymouth and a brilliantly placed reserve for people.”
You can get up close and personal with nature here including some rare birds such as the bittern, marsh harrier and bearded tits and other wildlife such as water vole and otters.
And you don’t have to be a ‘twitcher’ or even a birdwatcher. Weymouth Wetlands is great if you just want to escape from the bustle of town and have a quiet walk in the country. Or if you call into our visitor centre at Radipole Lake for a cup of tea, you can find out more about the wildlife, about our events and RSPB campaigns or just have a browse in the shop.
Give us a call on 01305 778313 to find out about opening times and activities.
