With my wedding and subsequent honeymoon at the beginning of September, most of September was spent having a fabulous time on a road trip around Arizona and the surrounding states.

I left my son and then parents in charge of the garden and watering duties in the greenhouse and as the majority of my tomatoes rippened over this time, they had a bountiful crop to eat.

The Poblano chillies on the other hand were still green and although a decent size, I prefer my chillies red so they are still hanging on in there (please come back sun!)

My plan to grow the flowers for my wedding didn't come to fruition, so Plan B came into action and Mel from Ena's florist in Westbourne came up trumps and supplied me with the most delicious array of flowers. Pink Gypsophila, Bupleurum rotundifolium, white Chrysanthemums, Dahlias, Pink and White Lysianthus, Pink Sedums, it all looked so gorgeous and in hindsight I needed far more flowers than I thought I would need, thank goodness for Mel!

Although I couldn't provide my wedding flowers, I did cut some home grown Sweetpeas, Cosmos and a few Dahlias to add to the tables, which I loved doing, so although my contribution was very small, it made me feel rather good.

It's amazing how, just a few weeks away from the garden makes you realise how much you do on a daily basis. A bit of deadheading here and there, weeding and staking, then a time away and all of a sudden, you are confronted with a jungle!

My vegetable patch, apart from a mountain of weeds, presented me with about 6 squashes, hiding under the leaves, so they have been removed, in the hope that the sun can ripen them a little more, before the frost. Mind you they are rather small but hopefully they will be sweet.

I am rather pleased though with my Brussels Sprouts - the stems are covered in tiny little sproutlings!

I have never grown them before, so although I am having a battle with the snails, I am hoping that they go for the leaves and not the sprouts. I think some research is needed.

I am starting the mammouth task of cutting back and getting the garden ready for Winter, although with plenty of Dahlias still in flower and the Chrysanthemums in bud, I still have plenty to look forward to before then.
