A MAN from Alum Chine is set to jump out of a plane with one of the stars of Bournemouth Air Festival in memory of his brother.

Liam Dixon, 28, will be taking on the tandem skydive with Cpl Nathan Connolly, jump master of the Red Devils Freefall Display Team, in Salisbury on Wednesday, August 19, in tribute to brother, Shaun, who died in September 2014 after a battle with bowel cancer.

Funds raised will go to the Poole-based Forest Holme Hospice, which offers care and support to people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, who looked after Shaun before his death, and Cancer Research UK.

Liam has already raised £1,000 to be shared between the two causes, but has set himself the target of £2,500, which he hopes to reach with the help of the Red Devils Freefall Display Team.

He said: “Obviously my brother had to fight his fear of chemotherapy and cancer in general, so that’s why I want to fight my own fear. It’s a massive ordeal for me. Forest Holme cared for my brother not just with end-of-life care, but he visited them several times before and the support they gave our family was very special.” Liam said that his employers, Complete Production Solutions Group, are sponsoring the Red Devils’ night jump on Friday as part of the Bournemouth Air Festival programme, by providing the pyrotechnics for their display. In response, the Red Devils were only too keen to help Liam with his challenge and will be presenting him with his tandem skydive certificate and funds raised during the first day of the festival 2015.

He added that UK PostBox are set to make a donation of £500 towards his fundraising and Complete Production Solutions Group will also be giving money to the charities.

Liam added: “I am doing this for my nephew, Shaun’s son, Jake, two, as well, so that in the future he can see what I did for my brother and to raise awareness and give support to Forest Holme.”
