A POOLE mum who hit the headlines when her family was spied on by Borough of Poole is standing for election to that council.

Jenny Paton, left, has confirmed that she hopes to represent the Branksome East ward for the Liberal Democrats and is standing as a candidate in the by-election on November 15.

It was caused by the resignation of Conservative councillor Stephen Rollo-Smith. The Tories form the administration of the hung council with 20 councillors, 18 Liberal Democrats and three Poole People – and one seat being contested.

Her family’s movements were investigated under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) over a school catchment area for popular Lilliput First School in 2008.

An Investigatory Powers Tribunal later found that the council had breached the Human Rights Act.

Nominations close for the by-election at noon today when the other candidates will be revealed.
