A Bournemouth councillor wants access to gambling limited for the public's "own good"

Queen's Park councillor Cheryl Johnson was making a written comment on a proposed gambling policy for Bournemouth.

She wrote: “In my view gambling is a dangerous as any drug.

“Gaming machines should be as low a prize as possible. £100 is plenty.

“There is nothing sadder than watching someone fixed on a fruit machine.

“Casino’s – fine but two in the town is plenty. If people find chucking their money away an entertainment then the opportunity to do it has to be limited for their own good.”

The licensing board considered comments from various bodies and agreed to submit the 34-page policy document to the full council meeting on October 30.
