TALENTED Glenmoor School student Katie Foot was one of four winners in a national financial competition.

The 13-year-old was selected from across the UK to have her work exhibited in London’s Design Museum.

She and her teacher, Sue Holloway, travelled to London to see her work on display and to collect her prizes.

Katie designed a comic strip about the importance of saving money as part of the national My Money Week contest, organised by the Personal Finance Education Group.

The group helps schools teach their pupils about personal finance to enable them to cope with money when they leave school.

Katie received a goody bag of art materials and £30 in gift vouchers. Her school received £500 in prize money.

Katie said: “This work has given me an insight into my future and life, of how to save money and make sure I spend my savings on the right things when needed.”

Sue Holloway said she and Katie enjoyed seeing the work on display and said a group of girls were involved in the project. She added: “All of the girls enjoyed working on the My Money topic. We were delighted when we heard Katie was one of the winners.”

A spokesman for the organisers said they had received a high standard of entries and added: “Katie’s colourful comic strip really stood out.”
