A HIGH-TECH skills block to cater for students across Bournemouth and Poole has been unveiled in Christchurch.

Pupils at The Grange School in Somerford celebrated the official opening of the vocational facility which will cater for youngsters at schools across the area.

Following the forming of a Federation with Twynham School, the Grange has utilised the expertise of staff across the two schools to help create the new facility. As well as the usual classrooms, the new block includes a hair salon, motor vehicle garage and a boardroom style area.

Year 10 and 11 students from schools including Ashdown, Bourne Academy, Glenmoor and The Bishop of Winchester will come to the school to study Btecs in business, public services and construction among many other vocational subjects.

Head teacher of The Grange, Steve Dossett said: “In this ever challenging economic climate we are delighted that we are able to provide these high quality facilities and courses which will provide employment opportunities and raise the aspirations of all our students.

“Our vision for Twynham Vocational at The Grange is to continue to add to our specialist courses in the next academic year; our current courses are oversubscribed indicating a clear need for vocational subjects to run alongside traditional GCSE and A-level subjects.

“Whether a students is looking to develop skills for a top job or trade, or to access a university place we have the courses and expertise to help them reach their goal.”

The facility has been sponsored by local businesses including Twynham Motor Group and Keith Motors, Jas Hair and Scissors Group.
