WHAT’S in a name? Dance teacher Julie House decided to put hers to good use by holding an event in aid of a certain local children’s hospice.

She organised a Zumba event at the O2 in Boscombe with the £250 raised going to her near-namesake, Julia’s House.

“It comes down to my name first and foremost,” she said.

“People always say ‘Is that the charity?’ so I’m always having to explain myself.

“I have young daughters as well. When I researched Julia’s House I liked the sound of it.”

Bournemouth mother-of-two Julie, 40, who was helped by four other teachers, held a Zumba master class with club tracks and handed out party bags containing flyers and glow sticks.

The event was attended by 150 people of all ages, from children to 70-somethings.

“My mum and a few of her friends came. I have regulars who are OAPs,” Julie said.

After receiving some positive feedback from those who attended, Julie now hopes to hold another event at the same venue.

“The O2 was really helpful in planning it,” she said.

Julia’s House is the only hospice in Dorset dedicated to looking after children with life-limiting conditions. Most are unlikely to live to adulthood.

It has a team of nurses and carers who provide support for families and children in their own home and at the hospice building in Corfe Mullen.

The services provided by Julia’s House will cost nearly £2.7million this year, but less than 10 per cent of its funding comes from government, leaving the charity reliant on the support of the community for the rest.
