A DRUNKEN man plunged to his death as he attempted to climb through a second floor window into his flat, an inquest heard.

David Scowcroft borrowed a ladder from a nearby bar after realising he had locked himself out of his Haviland Road, Boscombe flat, district coroner Sheriff Payne was told.

But after becoming stuck halfway in, he decided to come back down the ladder and missed his footing, the Bournemouth inquest was told.

Mr Scowcroft, 48, whose flat was in Haviland Mews, had been drinking for several hours when the accident happened just after 10pm on Thursday June 7.

He was taken to Poole Hospital, then transferred to Southampton where he died 17 days later from severe brain injuries, the coroner was told.

The inquest heard the former cruise ship croupier had suffered from mental health problems in the past.

Mr Payne recorded a verdict of accidental death.
