A 16-YEAR-OLD cyclist was taken to hospital with head injuries but cannot remember how he came off his bike.

The youngster also suffered leg and shoulder injuries and police are hoping to speak to a driver who stopped to help the local lad after he was hurt riding along Fairmile Road in Christchurch.

The lad was allowed home from hospital after treatment.

PC David Lawrence, of the Dorset Police traffic unit, said the boy was hurt close to the junction of Mill Road.

He said: “A passing motorist stopped at the scene to help and took the bicycle to the boy’s home address and informed his parents.

“I would like to speak with the motorist who helped and urge him to contact police.”

Residents who live close to where the boy was injured said it is a “dangerous” spot.

Adrian Tabor, 69, lives on Fairmile Road and fears the boy may have been knocked down as he rode around a parked car.

“It’s terrible here,” he said.

“I feel sorry for the children as it’s dangerous.”

Mr Tabor feels there are too many heavy goods vehicles travelling along the route and said mums with pushchairs have to walk into the road to get past parked cars.

“They need to stop trucks and lorries from constantly coming through here,” he said.

“It’s horrendous.”

Fellow resident Rebecca Johnson, 30, said she saw a boy knocked down near the same spot before.

“I’m surprised I didn’t see it,” she said.

“I saw a boy fall off his bike about three weeks ago just further down Fairmile Road.

“It does get really busy here at rush hour.”

Any witnesses who saw the boy come off his bike just before 5.30pm on Tuesday are urged to call Dorset Police on 101.
