OLYMPIC inspiration is thought to be the reason behind a massive increase in the number of people taking part in this year’s Castlepoint fun run in Bournemouth.

The fourth annual event, which will be held at the Littledown Centre on Sunday, October 14, is on course to attract double the number of participants than it did last year.

They will compete in races including a family half-mile run, children’s races and an adults’ 5k.

Double Olympian and Common-wealth medallist Liz Yelling will set the runners on their way. She said: “The Castlepoint fun run is an opportunity for the whole family to have fun and get fit at the same time.

“Now in its fourth year, the children’s races are proving a real hit with youngsters from all over Poole and Bournemouth.”

The children’s races are free to enter and there is a small fee for the 5k, which will benefit Access Dorset.

Peter Matthews, Castlepoint’s general manager, said: “The high level of advanced notified entries is being attributed to the inspiration from the Olympics and Paralympics.

“Every participant will receive a finisher’s medal and there are trophies for winning teams in each race.”
