BOURNEMOUTH is acquiring quite a reputation for itself as a festival town.

The annual air extravaganza is now a huge event attracting up to a million people, has just celebrated its fifth year. Following hard on its heels is the impressive Arts by the Sea Festival.

The event begins tomorrow and goes on for most of October and the rich variety of what’s on offer can be seen on pages 10 and 11 of today’s Daily Echo. The centrepiece of this weekend is the virtual demolition of the Imax on Saturday night, an ambitious and impressive (hopefully) large-scale piece of projection art.

The Imax itself will be coming down for real in the coming months, making way for a Waterfront arena, which will in itself open up all sorts of artistic and cultural possibilities from next summer.

In the meantime, there’s plenty to see in the next four weeks.

The town must make the most of it.
