TWO cyclists are riding 800 miles to Berlin in memory of a Purbeck singer/songwriter who passed away in the German capital earlier this year.

Talented Sasha Boyesen, a well-known performer in the Swanage area, died in April following an accidental drugs overdose just two weeks after her 23rd birthday.

Devastated mum, Freya Boyesen, spent six days at her bedside – but Sasha remained in a coma throughout that time and sadly never recovered.

Now, Oliver Reeves – the son of Freya’s partner – and his friend Chris Subramaniam have decided to embark on the charity ride in her memory.

Oliver, 29, from Bournemouth, said: “We lost someone close to us. It was a hard time and I just wanted to try and make something positive come out of it all.”

The pair set off on their 15 day adventure from Swyres Head, Kingston – the same Purbeck beauty spot where Sasha’s ashes were scattered in May.

Freya, who lives in Kingston, near Swanage, said: “Oliver was very close to Sasha and was devastated by her death. I think when young people are motivated to do something like this, especially following a tragedy, then they should get our support.”

All going well the pair should arrive into Berlin, where they’ll be met by Freya, early next month.

Oliver hopes to raise vital funds for the charity, Action on Addiction, whereas Chris, who has lost two teenage cousins to cardiac arrest, is raising money for the Cardiac Risk in the Young charity.

Freya, who has posted an emotional video on the internet focusing on the ride, said: “They left Swyres Head at the same spot where we scattered Sasha’s ashes. That was where we let her go.”
